Boat Insurance Online

By Alison Cole

When buying online boat insurance one should get proper coverage for man-made catastrophes, burglaries, or natural disasters. By taking advantage of certain offers, one should be able to obtain a discount on online boat insurance rates.

A marine insurance expert may be able to bargain for lower premiums. Depending on lesser loss ratios, one can shun payment of insurance deductibles and depreciation allowances sustained by losses, and an individual can play a role in minimizing the damages.

Boat insurance is often overlooked by boat owners. It is not mandatory, and is only imposed on consumers if there is an outstanding loan on the boat.

Nevertheless, online boat insurance has turned out to be a reasonably priced means for boat owners to safeguard their assets. It is important to get liability coverage and property coverage at a minimum; one can also get further coverage like towing coverage and trailer coverage.

Boat insurance should be procured with the help of a veteran insurance agent or broker, who has expertise in writing boat insurance. There is no substitute for knowledge, where searching for a source of boat insurance is concerned.

Premiums depend on the size of the boat, its horsepower and navigational range, and the experience of operator. Boats which are over 25 years old are usually written under a different category of boat programs, and a majority of insurers will need a survey for boats and yachts over 10 years old.

Some insurance carriers impose a surcharge of up to 30% because of the disastrous loss character of a specific region. Yet most online insurers offer discounts and anti-burglary plans.

Hints On california ski boat

A personal water craft (PWC) is a recreational watercraft that the rider sits or stands on, rather than inside of, as in a boat. Models have an inboard engine driving a pump jet that has a screw-shaped impeller to create thrust for propulsion and steering. They are often referred by the names WaveRunner, Jet Ski, or Sea-Doo, which are brand names owned by Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Bombardier, respectively.

Hints On seadoo jet skis

, which use underwater wings or struts to lift the vessel clear of the water, standard jetboats use a conventional planing hull to ride across the water surface, with only the rear portion of the hull displacing any water. With the majority of the hull clear of the water, there is reduced drag, greatly enhancing speed and maneuverability, so jetboats are normally operated at planing speed. At slower speeds with less water pumping through the jet unit, the jetboat will lose some steering control and maneuverability and will quickly slow down as the hull comes off its planing state and hull resistance is increased. However, loss of steering control at low speeds can be negated by lowering the reverse deflector slightly and increasing throttle - so you increase thrust and thus control without increasing boat speed itself. A conventional river-going jet boat will have a shallow-angled (but not flat-bottomed) hull to improve its high speed cornering control and stability while also allowing it to traverse very shallow water. At speed, jetboats can be safely operated in less than 3 inches to (7.5 cm) of water.

The common sailboat comprises eight essential parts: hull, tiller, rudder, mainsail, mast, boom, jib and keel. The hull is the shell of the boat, which contains all the internal components. Its symmetrical shape balances the sailboat and reduces drag, or the backward pull caused by friction, as it moves in the water. Inside of the hull in the stern, or back of the boat, is the tiller, which is attached to the rudder in the water. Think of the tiller as the boat's steering wheel and the rudder as the tire. To maneuver a sailboat to the right, for example, you pull the tiller to the right side of the boat, causing the rudder to alter its direction.

3 Essential Boat Dock Accessories

By Charlie Johnson

When you buy a power boat, it's possible that you'll also rent dock space at
the nearest marina. And that means boat dock accessories. This isn't
something a lot of people think of when they purchase a boat but you'd
be surprised at what's available for boat dock accessories. So how do
you choose?

One boat dock accessory that's crucial to your boat is dock bumpers.
Dock bumpers are designed to keep your boat from banding against the
sides of the dock in heavy winds and storms.

While most bumps would
only cause superficial problems like paint scratches (annoying enough
in itself) you could end up with some serious damage if the storm is
bad enough to really slam your boat into the sides of the dock.

Dock wheels could be something you might want to consider as well.
This is especially true if your dock spot is narrow and you have
trouble steering your boat all the way in. Dock wheels allow you
to navigate your boat to the beginning of your slot, and then they
catch your boat and bring it all the way in.

And lastly, you may want to consider a dock ladder. A dock ladder will
allow you to check out various exterior parts of your boat up close. It
also comes in handy if your can't reach your boat from the dock and choose
to swim to it.

Buying your boat is just the beginning. There are many other things you
need to take care of that new boat owners don't necessarily think of when
purchasing a boat.

Day sailing yachts are usually small sub-20-feet (6 m) in length. Sometimes called dinghies, they often have a retractable keel, centerboard, or daggerboard. Most day sailing yachts do not have a cabin, as they are designed for hourly or daily use and not for overnight journeys. At best they may have a 'cubby', where the front part of the hull has a raised solid roof to provide a place to store equipment or to provide basic shelter from wind or spray.

To All Cruisers - Information On Cruising Expenses.

Sat, 22 Dec 2007 20:35:45 +0200
This is not "how much does it cost to cruise." This isn't "How much did you spend in Fiji?" This is, "what do you spend on a monthly or weekly basis in the various ports while cruising?" It doesn't have to be exact, and shouldn't be overblown, but this is intended to buttress the arguments of many destination-based businesses that cruising sailors are good for the local economy. This is a subject near and dear to my heart, because it isn't just Fiji who discounts the cruising sailor as a benefit to the economy, and it's the powerful resorts who get the ear of government in most economies dependent upon the tourist dollar.
